HYDERABAD: After nearly three and a half years of living and serving as Turkish Consul General in Hyderabad, Adnan Altay Altinors and his wife Kubra Altinors returned to Ankara early Friday morning. They took with them priceless memories of the days spent in the City of Pearls and left a void in their tight-knit circle of friends.

Besides clearing their papers and submitting final reports to the Turkish Consulate in Jubilee Hills, they have spent their last two weeks saying goodbye to their friends, colleagues and fellow diplomats in Hyderabad. “Our mission is over and Hyderabad will be sorely missed. I wish I could do more, but the pandemic has broken out. I miss my daughter and I am waiting to see her in Ankara, ”said Adnan, who was known to have organized health camps, food and charitable donation campaigns for Ramzan, and a conference on empowering women. women, among other activities, during his stay.

Kubra, on the other hand, says she will keep coming back to Hyderabad to meet her friends who are nothing less than family. “The people and the culture here are so welcoming. I will never be able to say goodbye to them. I will always stay in touch with them all my life, ”she says.

As the couple return to their hectic life in the Turkish capital, their friends share fond memories with CE. Rai Saheba Begum Scheherazade Rikye Javeri, affectionately known as Sherry Javeri, calls them a “refreshing couple”. “I have a very close bond with Turkey. I know all the Turkish consuls general stationed in Hyderabad. Adnan and Kubra are extremely special. Kubra compliments Adnan so well. The two have established a strong relationship here and have a good grasp of the country, ”says Javeri, who hopes they will return soon.

Another close friend, Shona Malhotra, will certainly miss her weekly sessions with Kubra. “I met Kubra in January 2019, when my husband took over the general management of Taj Falaknuma. It was a meeting, where she and Adnan were also present. Since then, she, Ravita (the mayor) and I have met at least once a week. There’s no way we won’t catch up with all three of us every week, unless one of us is traveling, ”says Shona, a hotelier, who has spent some time in her life on vacation with the hotel. couple in the Maldives and Kerala.

One thing she will miss is chatting for hours together at the Gachibowli house in Kubra. “We used to sit in that lovely dining space in his kitchen and chat over mugs and cups of tea. This is something Kubra also loved to do. She found it very similar to the way women in Turkey spend time together in the vast kitchens there, ”she says, adding that Adnan’s stories were the icing on the cake. “He’s a great storyteller.”

The deputy high commissioner of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Hyderabad, Andrew Fleming, recently hosted a dinner for the couple. Calling Adnan a “great companion,” here is what Andrew had to say about him: “Adnan arrived in Hyderabad about eight months after me and has been an excellent companion in the small diplomatic community here from day one. He was joined by his lovely wife Kubra a few months later and the two have become good friends to my wife and me.

The two diplomats attended over 50 events together, but Andrew remembers a few highlights: “amazing” nights at Taj Falaknuma with its strong Turkish connections (like much of this city) and some parties at Gachibowli Stadium. “We enjoyed our shared passion to watch football live, in this case Hyderabad FC in its inaugural season. We are planning a football meeting in Turkey and I am already delighted. I wish Adnan the best of luck in his next role in Ankara and hope he gets the chance to serve as an Ambassador afterwards – he has all the qualities to do a great job, ”said Andrew.

Another close friend, Alicia Dubier will miss their warmth and hospitality. “Dr Altinors and the First Lady of Turkey in Hyderabad Kubra Altinors left very pleasant memories of warm friendship and camaraderie with all who knew them. Adnan and Kubra, as they were affectionately known, have always been welcoming and gracious hosts, whether it is a lunch in their beautiful home or a formal event, ”she says.

Calling Kubra on livewire at every meeting, she says, “Her witty sense of humor has always kept us going. They were a wonderful couple, who will surely be missed. Alicia, the wife of Ian Dubier who is the Managing Director of Taj Krishna, hopes to see them again in the not-so-distant future.

Fashion designer Ravita Mayor remembers her vacations and celebrations with the couple. “We have been friends since the very beginning of their stay in Hyderabad. Just before they could leave for Turkey, we took a short trip to Goa. In addition, our vacation at Lake Palace in Udaipur was splendid, ”she says. Kubra, Ravita and Shona were a bunch of girls who would wait for a chance to date. “For birthdays and all other celebrations, we were together. I will miss her so much, ”she said.
As the Altinors settle in Ankara, their friends here in Hyderabad can’t wait to welcome them again. Here is wishing them all the joy and success in life.
