After the pandemic forced many iconic Austin events to be canceled or adapted to virtual settings, many are starting to return to normal, both restoring options in person and expanding current offerings.

On September 23, the ThunderCloud Turkey Trot announced that it will be offering a hybrid event this year, allowing people to return to in-person participation after running entirely virtually in 2020.

On September 24, the Moontower Comedy Festival announced that it will partner with Just For Laughs to deliver a 10-day comedy event in April. This festival will be bigger than the previous Moontowner Festivals.

Participants will be permitted to attend the 31st anniversary event in person. Organizers will work with Austin Public Health to establish safety protocols ahead of the Thanksgiving race.

There will be virtual options for individuals to participate, according to a press release from the organizers.

All proceeds will go to Caritas Austin.

“Caritas Austin needs our support now more than ever to continue helping thousands of people get off the streets, reach their full potential and contribute to our community,” said Mike Haggerty, ThunderCloud Co-Owner and Director executive of the trot in a press release.

Over the past 30 years, the event has raised $ 4.4 million for Caritas d’Austin.

ThunderCloud has been a local sub-store since 1975 and has 29 locations in central Texas.

Registration starts at $ 10- $ 27.

The Moontower Comedy Festival announced on September 24 that it will partner with Just for Laughs, a national comedy show organizer, to launch Moontower Just For Laughs Austin.

The event will take place in April at the Paramount Theater and other local venues.

The festival will be extended from four to ten days. The composition has not been published.

The 2020 festival, which would have been the ninth annual event, has been pushed back to 2021 and split into smaller events throughout the year. The 2022 event will follow the more traditional format of a multi-day event spread across multiple venues in the city center, according to the press release.
