Deposit renovation offer awarded | Around the city

Port Lavaca City Council awarded the offer for the renovations to the Southern Pacific Railway Depot to Barefoot Construction at a special meeting on Monday, September 20. The base offering as well as Alternative 2 includes new siding and trim, new windows, doors and cornices, a new soffit for the east end and a complete roof overhaul using the Enviroshake shingle system which gives the appearance of cedar shingles, said interim city manager Jody Weaver.

Weaver said that with the replacement of the bridge, they would like to add drainage under the deposit, so that water does not remain. This would add approximately $ 25,000 to the project.

An alternative would allow the builder to use 30-year-old asphalt shingles that wouldn’t mimic the look of cedar but bring the cost to $ 162,720.

“I think it should sound realistic, so I would go with the Enviroshake shingles,” said Councilor Jerry Smith.

“It will make the outdoors pleasant,” Weaver said, noting that Enviroshake shingles are designed for 185mph winds and come with a 50-year warranty.

In the other cases, the board approved the following points:

– A request from the Calhoun County Fair Association for a parade permit fee waiver for Saturday October 9 and to assist with traffic control at Sandcrab Stadium on the Bayfront Peninsula.

– A request from the Calhoun High School 12th grade class of 2023 to host a Color Run fundraiser on Saturday December 11 and help with traffic control.

– A request from Our Lady of the Gulf Altar Society for the closure of Benavides Street between Leona and Austin Streets for the Turkey Drive-thru Dinner from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on November 7.

– The final reading of the annual budget for the 2022 financial year.

– The final reading of an ordinance fixing the tax rates for the financial year 2022.

– Amendments to Annex A – Fees, Tariffs and Charges.

– A wage rate in effect for the roof repair project at the Port Lavaca police department.

– Delegation of authority over the PD roof repair project.

– The construction procurement method for the PD roof repair project.

– A selection committee and criteria for ranking proposals for the PD roof repair project.

– A TIPS agreement for corporate fleet management.

– A ledge in the Rafei subdivision.

– A ledge in the Howlett subdivision.

– A conceptual multi-family apartment complex to be located on Alcoa Drive.

– A new lease for Something More Media.

– Task Order # 23 for the Brooks Sewage Lift Station.

The council also acted on the following points:

– Received the full Five Year Plan review report.

– Rejected a height variation for a Prosperity Bank panel request, but staff were asked to work with them on the height. – Took no action following a closed session.
