Filling the Need, the Catholic Girls of Saint Rose of Lima Fill Food Baskets to Help Families in the Area | Ascension

Helping Families at Thanksgiving is an annual project for Catholic girls from Sainte-Rose de Lima to Saint-Amant.

The group partners with many others in the community to collect and distribute food in the community of St. Amant.

Forty-one families have asked for help with this thanksgiving in the pantry of Notre-Dame-du-Saint-Rosaire church in St. Amant.

Student organizations at St. Amant High, Lakeside Primary, and St. Amant Primary and Middle organized canning drives in November to help Catholic girls fill their baskets with non-perishable items to accompany the turkey, side dishes and the desserts.

The Youth Ministry of the Holy Rosary also collected cans, decorated large boxes to hold all the food, helped sort the cans, and helped on the day of the food distribution.

About 50 people were involved in sorting canned foods, filling the huge boxes with staples such as cooking oil, flour, sugar, cake mixes, pasta and more, so that when the turkey and the dressing was eaten, there was still food left to feed a family for at least another week.

There are much simpler ways to provide food baskets to needy families, but Bettye Lambert, who has chaired this project for Catholic Daughters for over a decade, says it’s well worth the weeks of hard work it takes.

“When a single person starts to cry telling you how they lost their job or about their battle with cancer, and they tell you how grateful they are for this food after having had the worst year imaginable, you yourself. remember why we are working so hard to make it. that, ”she said.

“It’s easy to forget how truly blessed we are,” Lambert said. “Doing projects like this where we help people who are really in need reminds us of all of our blessings. “
