The Gambian Volleyball Federation (GVBF) had recognized the support of the Gambian Embassies in Doha and Ankara for the National Men’s Beach Volleyball Team which recently participated in the PRO Beach Volleyball Tournament in Turkey.
The Doha (Qatar) and Ankara (Turkey) missions led by Excellencies Ambassador Foday Malang and Ambassador Serigne Modou Njie, the Gambian community of Doha and its friends mobilized an extraordinary amount of D 167,000 in 72 hours for support the volleyball duo who traveled to Turkey following an unexpected late withdrawal of a sponsorship offer.
The two missions, the Gambian community and friends with logistical support from The Gambia National Olympic Committee and GVBF purchased round-trip air tickets, hotel rooms, travel to Turkey to tournament venues and other logistical means for the 3-week stay of the African champions in Turkey.
The duo, Sainey Jawo and Mbaye Babou Jarra, climbed to the podium in both contested tournaments, winning silver in the Istanbul tournament and bronze in Izmir.
The missions applauded the generosity of our friends and communities for making possible the feat of the reigning African beach volleyball champions.
