Greece imposes testing requirements on American and Egyptian travelers – lifts them for arrivals from India

Greek authorities have announced that travelers from Egypt and the United States will undergo a mandatory testing process upon arrival in the Hellenic Republic.

In contrast, travelers from India have been subject to an easing of entry restrictions as the requirement to provide a test result on arrival ceased to apply, according to a statement released by Civil Aviation. Authority (CAA), reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The Greek authorities have noted that the current aviation directive will remain in force for another week, on Friday October 1.

The CAA stressed that third-country nationals and their spouses or accompanying persons will continue to be banned from entering the county. However, there will be no change on entry conditions for travelers to the EU and the Schengen area, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

The mandatory screening requirement remains in place for Russian travelers arriving in Greece, regardless of their vaccination status. They must present a PCR test carried out 72 hours before or a rapid test carried out 48 hours before arrival. Additionally, all travelers or permanent residents of Russia will need to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Greece.

In addition, the CAA has revealed that other travelers from third countries who are required to test negative upon arrival include the following:

  1. Albania
  2. Argentina
  3. Bulgaria
  4. Brazil
  5. Georgia
  6. Cuba
  7. United States
  8. China
  9. Libya
  10. Morocco
  11. North Macedonia
  12. Pakistan
  13. Russia
  14. Turkey

Travelers from the above-mentioned countries will be required to pass a rapid airport check-in test. If it is positive, the traveler should perform a PCR test to confirm the result.

In addition, third-country nationals must provide an essential reason for visiting Greece or must be permanent residents of the country to be allowed to return. Third countries, whose travelers are subject to more stringent entry conditions into Greece, including the following countries:

Australia, North Macedonia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Belarus, Bahrain, New Zealand, South Korea, Qatar, China, Kuwait, Ukraine, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Japan, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Jordan, Moldova, Brunei, San Marino, Andorra, Vatican, Monaco, Turkey, Kosovo, Chinese, Taipei.

Additionally, CAA reminds all travelers to complete the Passenger Tracking Form at all times prior to departure, regardless of nationality. The form is considered a necessary travel document because it helps the government contact travelers throughout their stay in the country.

Travelers are reminded to wear a face mask at all times during the flight.

In addition, the Authority reveals that in order for travelers to enter the country without quarantine, they must provide one of the following documents:

1) A vaccination certificate of more than 14 days issued by a public authority in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian.

2) Provide negative PCR test performed within 72 hours or 48 hours before arrival in Greece for those tested with rapid test.

3) Present a recovery certificate issued 30 days after the first positive test, valid for 180 days.

4) Present the EU COVID-19 digital certificate.

Children from several years old must present a vaccination, negative test, recovery certificate or digital certificate to enter Greece.
