With everyone desperate to go abroad, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the government eased restrictions.

On August 9, changes went into effect that moved seven countries to the green list and France from the orange list plus to the orange list.

As popular holiday destinations for Britons have seen changing restriction levels in recent months, fears that countries will be moved to the redlist have deterred some would-be travelers.

Greece

Greece is currently on the orange list

Greece’s fairly low case rate means it has remained a popular destination throughout the pandemic.

Currently, Greece is on the orange list, which means travelers will be able to avoid quarantine on their return provided they are fully vaccinated and test negative for the coronavirus upon arrival.

France

France is now on the amber list

France has recently moved from amber plus to amber.

From August 8, the fully vaccinated amber rules will apply in France, meaning those returning to the UK will not have to self-quarantine provided they are negative for Covid and that they were doubly trapped.

Spain

There are still restrictions in Spain after the country declared a state of emergency in May

At the time of writing, Spain is on the UK’s orange list.

Some restrictions remain from the Spanish state of emergency which ended on May 5 and the British Foreign Office notes that the restrictions may vary from region to region.

The same return policy applies to Spain as to France and Greece, no quarantine if you are fully vaccinated and have a negative Covid test.

Italy

You can travel to Italy as it is on the orange list so those who have been double bitten do not have to isolate themselves on their return to the UK

Italy is currently on the UK’s orange list.

This means entry without quarantine is allowed for anyone who has had both vaccine doses and a negative Covid test.

However, restrictions on arrival in Italy require anyone in the UK to be quarantined for 5 days and test negative. These restrictions extend until August 30, according to the UK government’s website.

As with all Orange List countries, the Foreign Ministry advises against “anything but essential” travel to Italy due to the risk of Covid.

Turkey is currently on the red list

Since June 8, direct flights have arrived in England from Turkey, but only at dedicated terminals at Heathrow or Birmingham airports.

However, he is still on the red list.

This means that only UK or Irish nationals or those with UK residence rights will be allowed to re-enter.

Even so, you still need to take a Covid test before you go, book an expensive quarantine hotel package that includes two tests on your return, and complete a passenger locator form.

Anyone returning from Turkey faces a 10-day quarantine in a hotel.
