Kindergartens teach us how to cook a turkey

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — These aren’t your typical Thanksgiving chefs, but they have plenty of ideas for how to cook your birdie.

It all starts with choosing the right turkey.

“First you get a turkey, then you take it home,” said Ella, a kindergarten student at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “And then you cut and then you put it in the oven. And then you’re done.

Others say it starts before you even go to the store.

“We have to take him home and cut his hair,” said Rexton, a kindergartener at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “And we have to put it in the oven, about 10 minutes.”

After about 10 minutes you can serve it straight away.

“And you have to take it out and cut it for people,” Rexton said. “And how many people do you have, if you have 100 people, you can have a turkey.”

Now you might be thinking that there are different ways to cook a turkey. But little chefs have ideas for how you can save time and energy this Thanksgiving.

“First you get a pot, then you get hot water, then you get a turkey,” said Tejanae, a kindergartener at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “And then you turn the stove to six degrees. And then you eat it.

Six degrees may be a bit cold for a turkey, but seven degrees is enough.

“You buy a turkey first, then you put it in the oven for seven degrees,” said Cora, a kindergarten student at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “And then you take it out and then you eat it.”

If you are pressed for time, the kids have an idea for that too.

“That’s how you cook a turkey,” said Thea, a kindergarten student at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “You get a turkey and you put it in the microwave for two seconds. And then you’re ready to eat it.

And if you’re a last-minute shopper, you can even turn chicken into a turkey.

“First you get chicken, then you put bones in it,” said Ocean, a kindergarten student at Hutchison Beach Elementary School. “And then you put it in the microwave, then you put it in the oven for 10 minutes. And then the turkey is cooked.

Little sous chefs might need to spend a little more time in the kitchen before cooking up the Thanksgiving turkey, but these seem like good ideas.
