The Waggies have been talking about turkeys for 20 years

The Wagstaffe to Killcare Community Association celebrated the 20th anniversary of its popular newsletter and associated organizations with a special edition dedicated to its former members.

The first edition, which was published in August 2001, led to the formation of the Pretty Beach Bushcare Group and addressed issues such as development applications, signage on Wards Hill Rd and the introduction of a recycling program. .

Senior editor Robyn Warburton said these were just a few of the issues the Association had lobbied the Council on.

“Bill Gregor was the first editor, and he designed the layout and that hasn’t changed much,” Warbuton said.

“Gwen Perrie and Fay Gunther (both now deceased) were dedicated members of the Association, and it was they who initiated and carried out the renovation of Wagstaffe Hall – which has become a tremendous asset – and many other projects.

“Fay recently passed away and we plan to organize a memorial when we can.

“It was Gwen who decided we needed a newsletter, and it was Fay who named it Talking Turkey.

“She had already established that the Association’s logo was the brush turkey and she certainly ‘talked about the turkey’.

“People are eager to read the news and we have no trouble getting material every month.

“It is distributed to all letterboxes on the peninsula and to post office boxes and has met with great success.

We can’t celebrate its 20th anniversary with a rally, so let’s fill and raise our glasses and toast to Talking Turkey at home.

An unforgettable garden party for Fay Gunther has been postponed until Sunday, November 7.
