SHE SAYS WITHOUT HELP FROM THE COMMUNITY, ALL THE FOOD IN THEIR MASSIVE WAREHOUSE WOULD BE GONE IN ABOUT A MONTH. THE FOOD BANK HAS 168 PARTNER PANTRIES WHO DISTRIBUTE FOOD. PARTNERS LIKE ROY SHANKLE, WITH A HEART OF GOD AND HANDS AT WORK. <> “It absolutely saves families. I have a lady there who is raising four grandchildren.” TODAY HE MAKES TWO TRIP TO THE FOOD BANK. THROUGH THE NON-PROFIT CHARITY SHANKLE DISTRIBUTES FREE FOOD IN THE SMALL TOWN OF HARTFORD TWICE A WEEK. <> “we have people there, 600 people and we have 200 people showing up, see what I mean, like we talked about earlier, 125 people are voting. So we have a lot of people there , they are very low income people, most of them are housebound.” AND WHEN IT COMES TO THOSE WHO NEED THE MOST HELP… is getting tighter and tighter.” <> “it’s increased since I’ve been here. Not everyone has what some people have.” SOME OF THE CHARITIES WILL COLLECT THE DONATED TURKEYS ON FRIDAY NIGHT AS SOON AS THE COLLECTION OF TURKEYS IS COMPLETE. The River Valley Regional Food Bank provides food to nearly 100,000 people in eight counties. “The need never diminishes. People are hungry. It has increased since I have been here. of COVID and everything, the need has never diminished,” Hattie Hamilton said. Hamilton has worked for the food bank for almost four years. She told 40/29 News that through their partnership with Feeding America, they are able to turn a $1 donation into ten meals. On Friday, turkeys can be donated at Walmart stores in the River Valley. The turkey drive will benefit the River Valley Regional Food Bank and the 168 partner offices that distribute food locally in their communities. In the small town of Hartford, Roy Shankle volunteers for Hearts to God, Hands To Work. The charity buys food at reduced prices from the food bank and distributes it twice a week to residents in need. “We have people there, 600 residents, and we have 200 people who show up. They have very low incomes and most of them are housebound,” Shankle said.
