According to Syrian SANA, civilian sources said that Turkish-backed terrorist groups bombarded the surroundings of Ayn Issa town and the international highway (M4) in Hasakah countryside with artillery shells.

Property damage was caused to a number of homes and properties as a result of the attack, and a state of panic spread among the citizens.

Syrian sources also reported on August 27 that Turkish forces had launched airstrikes on areas north of the city of Raqqa in Syria.

“Turkish occupation forces and their mercenaries on Friday launched heavy artillery strikes in the villages of Abu Surra, al-Dibs and the M4 international highway in the countryside of Ayn Issa, north of the city of Raqqa, causing material damage and interrupting traffic on the international highway,” local sources told the SANA reporter.

Since 2016, Turkey has launched three military operations inside Syria to target US-backed militants known as the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Ankara accuses the YPG of being associated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has waged a separatist war against Ankara for decades.

The presence and operations of the Turkish army violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Arab country.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and other senior officials have said Damascus reserves the right to respond to Turkey’s ongoing offensive with all legitimate means available.
