The Syrian wing of the PKK terrorist organization, the YPG, launched a missile attack that left two dead and at least 17 injured on Friday morning in al-Bab district in northern Syria, cleared of the terrorists by the Turkish operation Euphrates Shield.

Residential areas in the district have been the target of more than 10 separate missile attacks.

The terrorist group YPG often organizes attacks against Jarabulus, Afrin and Azaz from the Syrian regions of Manbij and Tel Rifat, which remain under its occupation.

“Two civilians lost their lives and two others were injured. One of the injured is a White Helmets volunteer in the village of Hazwan, east of Aleppo, hit by direct targeting with guided missiles fired from areas controlled by the SDF and regime forces ”, The Syrian White Helmets civil defense group wrote on Twitter. , using another name for the YPG. The group added that he was deliberately hit and stressed that this was not a legitimate target.

Hadi Al-Bahra, co-chair of the Syrian Constitutional Commission, also addressed the issue on Friday, saying: “Innocent civilians in al-Bab, in the Aleppo countryside, were targeted last night by regime forces. and its allies fire missiles and artillery. These military escalations in northern and southern Syria demonstrate the need for a comprehensive country-wide ceasefire.

The Turkish Defense Ministry also condemned the al-Bab attack and said: “In retaliation for these attacks by terrorists brutally murdering innocent civilians, terrorist targets were shot down with howitzers, artillery and mortars “.

Once ruled by Daesh terrorists, al-Bab was freed three years ago during Operation Euphrates Shield, led by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and the Syrian National Army (SNA).

Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield on August 24, 2016 to eliminate the threat posed by Daesh and YPG / PKK terrorists at Turkey’s southern borders.

After his release, most of al-Bab’s residents returned to the city.

The Euphrates Shield is one of three successful counterterrorism operations that Turkey has launched since 2016 across its border in northern Syria to prevent the formation of a terrorist corridor and enable the peaceful settlement of residents. The other two are Olive Branch made in 2018 and Peace Spring in 2019.

The United States recognizes the PKK as a terrorist group, but collaborates with the YPG, ostensibly to fight Daesh. Turkey says it makes no sense to use one terrorist group to fight another.

Turkey strongly opposed the presence of the terrorist group in northern Syria and the formation of a terrorist corridor, which has been a major sticking point in the strained relations between Turkey and the United States. Ankara has long opposed US support for the YPG, a group that poses a threat to Turkey and terrorizes the local population, destroying homes and forcing people to flee. While stressing that a country cannot support one terrorist group to fight another, Turkey has carried out its own counterterrorism operations, in which it has succeeded in eliminating a significant number of terrorists from the region.

People in YPG-controlled areas have long suffered from its atrocities. The terrorist group has a long history of human rights abuses, ranging from kidnappings of suspected persons to the recruitment of child soldiers, torture, ethnic cleansing and forced displacement in Syria.

Under the pretext of fighting Daesh, the United States provided military training and military support trucks to the YPG, despite the security concerns of its NATO ally.

Turkey has once again reiterated its condemnation of nations supporting the terrorist group.

“The countries which encourage the continuation of attacks aimed at peace and stability in our region through activities which constitute crimes by protecting the terrorist organization PKK / KCK-PYD / YPG despite the benevolent warnings of Turkey and against the law international, are strongly condemned, ”Turkey’s National Security Council said in a statement Thursday evening.

“States which establish illegal relations with terrorist organizations and which use terrorism as a tool of foreign policy are reminded that their position will inevitably lead to destructive consequences. “
